Inspirational Imagery / Relevance to Graphic Design Experiment 2 - Basis of Editorial / Magazine

I have gathered some inspiration images that i feel help to inspire creative people. Cross course images are used in terms of;

Photography
Editorial
Design
Layout
Fashion
Colour
Themes and culture

MY GRAPHIC RESPONSE TO IMAGES:

Grid and Photography

From these images i can start to gather inspiration My own personal thought from photograph : The inspiration i draw from this image is the use of lines, shapes and dimensions. The use of awkward and 'straight' body angles allows for a dimensional photograph. The stance allows for the garment to fall 'straight' and effectively. In terms of design I can relate this image to Grid patterns.

Image and Type :

Inspiration and ACTION TO DESIGN - when adding type to an image to help identify the image or to emphasis or create a point. Positioning of the type has to fit and co-oparte with the image.

Practice : Type Placement

Practice : Type and Image + Copywriting:

Copy Writing : Use of context Type and Image to re-enforce or portray and idea.
For example, and image of a cage & the word emotion = Caged emotion. The colour blue also represents a 'shade of blue' which represents and emotion of feeling 'sad' or 'sorrowful' or 'down' which also links to the context and meaning of the design.

Colour :
You can LEARN a lot from specific images.

Composition:

Composition is key within design. Composition is the term given to a complete work of art and, more specifically, to the way in which all its elements work together to produce an overall effect. A 'static composition', for example, might stress horizontal and vertical accents, closure at the edges of the painting, and subdued colour and tonal contrasts, to give an effect of orderliness and repose.

Body Posture: Facial Expression : Fashion Clothing : Editorial

These images are perfect for placing in any fashion magazine. The composition of the images and the locations etc change when a specific trend is occurring. This allows fashion, hair, makeup to all be uptodate as well as styling, camera shots / anagles and composition.

Design Method : Personal Layout Experiment 1

PERSONAL EXPERIMENTATION:

Taking inspiration form my initial research I have started to experiment with some layout concepts.
This design focus on minimalism. Creating minimal grids and designs is effective in allowing teh content to be seen efficiently - and because I am proposing my designs to creatives - a visual format over a text heavy piece is key. I would like to use a lot of negative space and arrange the placement of images in a approachable yet interesting way.

Placement Experiments:

Spacing and layout :

Three images all within close proximity (from research) automatically allow for the eye to visit. This attracts use of grid method will allow for key images to be targeted: in a simple and effective layout.

Grid and Aligning Methods:

Concentrating of alignment heavily within this publication is key. As it will be minimal - placement and spacing must be as efficient as possible.

Editorial / Magazine Research

Layout and Forms of production that initial have gain my attention.

I want the editorial / magazine to be focused primarily in a contemporary format. Minimalism and focused design works well to covey this message.

Type based products - clean effective and stimulating with well presented final outcomes. The use of a heavily type based project could be useful - but through research gathered - creative people seem to work best from key terms and heavy image based design / influences.

The general aura of the publication - would effectively - stimulate the same basis as these magazines. The 'flow' and contenpory feel of these publications allows for an exclusive and well thought - out product.

Minimalism though a publication can work as a great way to focus images or text - basic colour schemes and the use of grid methods allow the aesthetic to maintain a compemtory vibe.

Incorporating images with very basic shapes and type creates a stand out piece. The unique and stylish method of design can automatically gain audiences attention.

Bold - Brash - Text and Type Hierarchy
Text needs to be effective - in a clean, precise and authemtic format - Personally for me minial design ofen structures this use of formalising type in the best possible way. The article below is clear and modern with a clear grid format that attaches 'comfortable reading' deliverables.

Brief One _ 01

01

Editorial / Publication
Rationale:
A few years back every blogger wanted a magazine theme, now, trends have changed, and ‘print’ - is back.
Online resources are useful, quick and easy. But printed magazine’s / publications are more specific to certain needs and allow creatives to gain inspiration not only from the context but also from the physical touch and aesthetic feel of a magazine / publication.
Although printed products are lacking in terms of technology and access, print reaches those who cannot gain access to the ‘latest trends’ online.
As part of an Idea’s to inspire young creatives your aim is to create a monthly trend forecast magazine / publication for creative students and create ideas to inspire action within design
Consider the latest trends in design, creative, food, film and TV to encourage more young people to become inspired within the creative network. Allow for showcasing of new talent and young creative ‘s to evolve a social networking database for designers through a ‘print’ concept.
Create a network via the magazine to connect creative ‘s through opinion on trend / new ideas.
Push the idea of inspiring action and create the monthly magazine / publication to promote creativity through young designers and creative ‘s.

As well a creating the magazine / publication, you need to create an extensive promotion program, aiming to reach the intended target audience in an inspiring and efficient way. Take into consideration price, themes, creative talents and ideas.

Studioooo Publication - Initial Poems / Illustrations

Initial Illustrations:

We decided to work on an A5 basis so that the poems could work in the same scale of researched poem books.

Taking a 'Humorous' 'Fun' and 'Light hearted' approach.Keeping an upbeat and simple approach to the design - the layout needs to be approached in a different order as do the designs and simple illustrations.
The illustration needs to be more effective and with more detail.

I decided to contact laura through Twitter as I felt it was a unique and intresting way to get through to her on an informal basis. I bought the book - and was automatically inspired with the process / design and poems. I brought the book to studiooooo and we decided it could be a fun and humerous process that we would love to undertake.
