Influential Magazine Research - Layout / Concept / Design

Teaser Magazine

A large serif typeface which allows for minimal space on the cover. The large image covers teh background but is minimal enough to allow type to overlay the image. The b/w version works well to portray an upmarket approach.

Premiss Magazine

Overlaying image and type and basing the magazine on a very heavy type based layout. The layout is quite intense and heavy but the grid system used allows us to read the content clearly and to not make the overall design seem to cluttered.

Yorokobu Magazine

Incorporating image with type - A visual response to a norm that is usually text heavy.

Designnet Magazine

The style of repetition and colour to draw attention to the content and the magazine, simple layout approach with added value of photography and types of type works well to inspire as inculpates a lot of visuals.

Must Magazine

Simple layout - Minimal design - A lot of negative space is used to portray a serious and immediate visual.

Animæ magazine

Creative layout which incapsulates colour image and type in an overlapping layout. The design works well as a whole to draw influence and attention.

Page Magazine

Personally I am heavily drawn to this magazine's form / content and outcome. The minial layout grids used help to project specific ideas and the 'pop' and 'bursts' of colour persue insight and creation.

Colour co-ordinating issues and creating a basic yet approachable and friendly design is a unique in terms of content but page magaizne carries it off with charm and style.

Upstreet Magazine

Influencia Magazine

Influential layout and simple grid methods allow for a heavily illustarted publication to because instintful, insightful and interlectual with type added as back up content for imagery in a stylitic approach.

Creating A Brand Identity

To create the 'Condiment Range' an identify needs to be formed. this identify needs to look and represent a professional company. Although, as it stands, the product takes on the form of hand rendered design, the brand image needs to take on a contemporary aesthetic.

The feel of the 'brand' needs to associate with teh concept of the 'homemade' 'house' 'condiment' variety but needs to be something that can also be expanded on, if the brand develops.

Logo / Brand idea/s & Development:
_

Initial Design:

Using A 'professional' and opposite typeface from hand rendered to portray a sense of professionalism and a contemporary approach a serif typeface was undertaken as a leading runner for the brand identify.

Then a sans-serif type face was introduced to add a less formal approach and to make the design product friendly.

'Family Run' represents the unique and message the brand wants to portray - Trying to create a logo onto a corporate and professional does not work on teh design featured below. It looks un-proffesional and 'messy'.

Changing the name and Introducing the 'Brand'

The use of having a 'corporate' and 'friendly' typeface works well to portray the brands image and message. So that design influences and works well with both hand rendered and brand face designs.

The use of still incorporating the word family is important. It is a KEY term to represent the message of the brand.
Having a 'tag line' also allows for a change
'A family of....'
can be adapted and changed as the brand develops further.

Development:

Final OutComes as of Yet.
The designs include the important aspects and the difference includes a friendlier typeface (sans-serif) for the tag line or to have he text in a serif and professional type.
That depends on the direction I want to take the brand.

Design Boards / Ideas

Initial Design Sheets / Response.

The automatic response was to create a Home-Made approach which includes illustrative and hand rendered designs.

Illustrative approach would take on a basic and 'decrotive' form - To target audience.

Creating a simple and 'decrotive' typeface that would be applicable to the 'homemade' concept. This is taken from inspiration via research imagery. Hand rendered type to disclose the 'at home' approach.

Creating a personality is part of the concept:
Trying to illustrate this in a 'hand written' format.

Brand Logo /Imagery seem to steam from the design. Design format and 'specs' need to be creative and formatted in an appropriate manner. The use of label size / stock / weight etc needs to be thought through.

The initial Response was automatically a visual hand rendered one. The next step to develop this will include designing a typeface and illustrative images to co-enside with the product / concept.

Condiment Brand Inspiration / Research

Condiment Brand Inspiration / Research

The English Preseoviour; Miniaml / Handmade 'vibe'

Uten : Contempory Approach / Modern / Minimalism

I particularly like this approach to the product design. The text is simple yet friendly and approachable  Using minimal colours and simple packaging works well to make the product contemporary and unique in selling point.

Feeding the Nation: Hand rendered / Illustrated

I feel this use of hand rendered type portrays a sense of an unfinished product. The use of type and colour works in direct contrast to create a very 'scruffy' design.

Illustrative:

Orginal: Hand Drawn - Illustartive / Minimal

Corprate; Logo - Colour - Not Personal

Jamie Olvier : Hand Rendered / Simple design approach / Homemade

The approach to Jamie Oliver's product range is quite effective. The use of clean and satisfying type works well against a minimal concept. The content is friendly and the hand rendered type portrays this also. The designs feel and look quirky and homemade which is effective.

Simple / Illustrative / Minimal

Works well for concept.

Colour Designs: Colour / Shape / Image

Type Based: Heavy influence on type / Simple Images / Layout
